Penang , West Malaysia & the UNESCO World Heritage Site of George Town

A Fascinating Window into the Past

George Town,  Penang,  West Malaysia

The most spectacular destination in Asia, Penang has stayed wonderfully nostalgic by retaining its old architecture, narrow alleyways, extravagant temples, lively street markets, authentic ethnic neighbourhoods and a gracious sense of disorder.

Penang is a unique tropical island that literally oozes with culture, stunning scenery, friendly people and the best food on earth.

In 2008 the city of George Town was awarded UNESCO World Heritage status. With over 10,000 magnificent pre-war buildings housing the spirit of generations, Penang is real - don't miss it !

Toh Aka Lane, Penang

Toh Aka Lane, George Town, Penang

Penang is the most culturally diverse heritage destination in Asia. It is living heritage.  A fusion of neighbourhoods and urban villages co-existing as they have done for centuries.

Contemporaries such as Melaka in Malaysia, Hoi An in Vietnam and Li Jiang in China are also beautiful but bereft of true character.  Their doors open to sell postcards and t-shirts to tourists.  Penang is still a living , breathing window into the past but - it will change.  The magnificent old streets will one day be transformed into a cultural museum.  Now is the time to experience a true heritage city.

PENANG TOUR

The sample itinerary outlined below is for a Tour conducted during August in Penang

This 15 day tour will be fully escorted by John & Veronica who have made George Town, Penang their second home.  August is festival month in George Town, so there will be many music, theatre and dance performances to see.  August is also the month for the Hungry Ghost celebrations.

Unlike most tours that conform to a travel formula, we will construct an interactive experience based on what is happening in Penang in August.  Of course we will include the must-see attractions but our focus will be on diversity and delving beneath the tourist facade to experience the real Penang.

Loved the variety you gave us and the care and thoughtfulness. I think we had quite a glimpse of the real Penang.  Organization was wonderful, such adventure and no pressure to participate.  I always felt safe and a great group of people as well.

This is like no other Malaysian Tour. We constantly despair at the many 'brand name' Tour Companies who routinely herd their clients across the surface of Penang.

Penang has a rich soul with the most generous and friendly people you will find anywhere. We have spent over 20 years here enjoying their hospitality and forging deep friendships. Doors are open to us on all levels. You will experience a piece of Asia that is unforgettable.

This was one of the best holidays we have had. Fellowship, laughs, great people, beautiful  Resort - simply the best!  Would go again with Relax Asia.
